Reminder: My birthday is coming up!

Can't you see Liz Taylor wearing this necklace? It might be hers. She was one of the people who loaned her collection to a Cartier/Lalique exhibit of Art Nouveau jewelry at the Legion of Honor in June. It was really beautiful!

I went to a dermatologist this past week. It was one of those offices that's really into 'beautiful people' - brochures for botox et al. And a fancy waiting room. Filled with Art and glass coffee tables with coffee table books. One of the books there was called 'jewelry by joan rivers.' Which seemed odd and well - who would want to read/look at that? I leafed through a book of fine Roman Interiors and considered the fact that Fascism like everything else in Italy was mostly an Art movement, but with a side interest in [nasty] politics. Anyways I had to wait a long time and eventually this woman came in. She saw the book on the way to the reception window. I saw her see it. And the moment the receptionist walked away from the window for a moment this woman made a beeline for the book, tore the book open - the cover was astray - and the receptionist called her back. She was torn - as she went back to the window her arm trailed ... . Finally, the receptionist let her go, and she grabbed the book. And sat down with it and again ravenously opened it, slip cover astray, flipping the page at a furious trot. Just fast enough to thoroughly skim the preface. Who knew? There she was, the very ordinary unremarkable person who was passionately interested in JEWELRY BY JOAN RIVERS. And I was interested too now - was it jewelry she'd owned or jewelry she'd designed? Such an amibiguous title! I mean - why didn't they call it 'Gilty Brooches and Guilty Smooches - Jewelry by Joan Rivers."? Well, they didn't. I looked it up on Amazon - and people really love the book. Someone actually wrote - 'if you like jewelry and you like Joan Rivers you'll love this book.'
